The Thruxton 10k Road Race

16th July 2006

The run was held, as usual, at Thruxton Motor Racing  Circuit, just off the A303, a few miles west of Andover, Hampshire.

It was the seventh year that the Rotary Club of Andover and Andover Athletic Club have organised a 10K Road Race at Thruxton Motor Racing Circuit, a few miles West of Andover on the A303.  The Race is open to both serious athletes and competitors of all abilities, and attracts athletes and wheelchair racers from right across the South of England, with many of the runners using the event as ideal preparation for longer runs in their running calendar.  Runners of all ages are welcome in the race, but the UK Athletics regulation regarding the minimum age of 15 years for competitors in 10K races is strictly adhered to.

Regrettably, last year no wheelchair entrants took part and so Andy Cheek's 2003 record still holds good.

Thruxton provides the opportunity to run an officially measured course round one of the fastest and finest motor racing circuits in the UK.  The flat, smooth tarmac surface facilitates fast times in a traffic free environment.  A Road Race Permit is obtained each year from the South of England Athletics Association, ensuring that the race is formally approved and is conducted under the laws and rules of competition of UK Athletics.  Showers, toilets, changing and refreshments are available and there is adequate car parking.

The overall winner last year was Amy Chalk who as Amy Stiles established a women's record  for the event in 2004. Congratulations Amy for another fine achievement, and congratulations also to all those who took part in last year's race.
