60th Anniversary Celebration Evening
On Monday 23rd November 2009, the Rotary Club of Andover held a celebratory evening to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Club.
We were privileged to have as honoured guests for the evening;
- Dame Mary Fagan – Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire
- The Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley – Ian and Teresa Hibberd
- Rotarian Ian Legge – District Governor Elect and his wife Sheila
Other VIP guests included our Dutch friends Gert and Ria Van Duiven, Martin and Els Keur together with attending Presidents or their representatives from the Rotary Clubs of Salisbury, Andover Anton, Amesbury, Basingstoke & Dene. They, together with our own Club members and their partners, were very welcome and, in all, 86 people attended the evening!
Our normal (evening) meeting room at the Quality Hotel was dressed to perfection and the meal prepared and served by Mark and his staff was of a very high standard. Our guests were welcomed and, after a hearty meal, there were submissions from President David Moulton, amusing recollections from Rotarian Stuart Bevan and a toast to our Club from District Governor Elect – Ian Legge.
Jean Ray – President of Inner Wheel presented the Club with the gift of renovating and preparing a new back-cloth for the ever-increasing number of banners received from Rotary Clubs around the globe. Gert Duiven presented his club’s generous Donation of £250 towards the cost of a Shelter Box and there was an impromptu performance of ‘Happy Birthday’ sung in Dutch from our friends from Hardenberg.
The evening was rounded off with a ‘musical interlude’ from Sergeant David Hull and The Woodwind Quintet from The Army Air Corps Band – a fitting conclusion to a most convivial evening!
