Japanese Earthquake & Tsunami Appeal
The Rotary Club of Andover Benevolent Fund
Registered Charity No. 253063
Following the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami of 11th March 2011, we were all appalled at the massive destruction and awful loss of life suffered by the Japanese people.
ShelterBox was one of the first of the emergency aid organisations to respond on the ground assessing needs and working closely with the relief workers and military of the home country as at least 380,000 people were displaced from their homes. These people needed shelter as they have lost everything. The green Shelterbox box does just that by providing a tent, cooking facilities and equipment for water purification, sleeping bags and many other items for a family up to ten persons.
In the weeks that has passed since the original earthquake, it has become apparent that the scales of the problems facing the people of Japan are huge. Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan has said that the country has experienced its greatest hardships since World War II as it tackles the aftermath of an earthquake, tsunami and an ongoing nuclear crisis.
The Rotary Club of Andover quickly launched an Emergency Appeal to co-ordinate a local response to assist some of the people affected by helping to provide Shelterboxes to those most in need. Over 90% of all donations go out in aid you can be sure your gift will be used to best effect. It is also supervised on the ground by ShelterBox response teams already in situ so aid gets to those most in need. We have no overheads* and use established Rotary Charities.
