Community / Vocational Service

The aim of this committee is to apply the skills, talents, time and vocations of the Club's members to identifying and fulfilling the needs of the community. Many organisations provide funding, but Rotarians also provide their personal time and expertise in service to the community.

May 2008 Annual General Meeting Report:

Wood chopping, Tesco collection and food bank, Christmas parcels and party, the Marie Curie collection and Stroke Awareness Day have all been carried out again this year.

Four members regularly assemble for the wood chopping at Smannell where regular committee meetings unfold! It has been a successful year especially in accessing timber, enabling 20 bags to be delivered per month. The task will resume in September.

The Christmas activities had been fulfilled with our thanks to Age Concern for their excellent cooperation and support.

The recent Stroke Awareness Day was especially successful with 116 people having been given blood pressure checks. Of these 23 people were referred to their GPs with one of these being an urgent case. Our especial thanks were recorded to Paul Kenny, dentist, and the St John’s Ambulance Brigade.
